Curtis Ansley is an outdoorsman: a Texan who loves to fish and hunt. He has been involved in these activities most of his life.
Another activity in which Curtis has been involved is chewing smokeless tobacco. He started chewing when he was in the seventh grade, and used smokeless tobacco for the better part of 30 years, very often while he was fishing and hunting. In 2005 he was diagnosed with squamous cell carcinoma, a moderately invasive skin cancer on the inside of his cheek where he placed the chewing tobacco. Since his surgery in December of 2005, he has experienced complications which affect his neck and shoulder, and eating can sometimes be difficult for him also.
Curtis is now dedicating a great deal of his time and energy informing others about the dangers of smokeless tobacco. He speaks to groups in schools, churches, hunting expos, fishing seminars and other organizations. He is passionate about explaining to teens that he was wrong to believe that “dipping” was the way to “fit in”. He has much to say about the combination of outdoor sports, especially fishing and hunting, and the use of chewing tobacco.
