Cowboy Ted Hallisey (CT) has been involved with the sport of rodeo for over 15 years as a radio and print journalist. He has covered the National Finals Rodeo and numerous Regional rodeo events. He has spent most of his life as an educator and started the Cowboy Ted Foundation for Kids in 1999 with the goal of touching the lives of one million kids in a positive way. He has visited with over 175,000 kids to teach them about Healthy Lifestyles. He has also been vocal about tobacco not being part of the sport of rodeo. He authored some tobacco-free ordinances that have been implemented by cities.
Cowboy Ted was a spit tobacco user for 15 years and knows the dangers of tobacco. Luckily, he has talked with his dentist and doctor and found that he has no major health problems from his tobacco use. CT has been tobacco-free for over 10-years. He has spoken at a number of National and Regional tobacco-free and health conferences. He tells kids that SMART COWBOYS/COWGIRLS don’t use tobacco products.
CT has also worked for Radio Disney and 8 other radio stations in California and Utah. His voice has been used on radio ads all over the United States. He has also produced three coloring books and written a series of books for kids that are available on his www.cowboyted.com web site as free downloadable books. There are a number of other tobacco-free resources on the web site. He has prerecorded tobacco-free radio ads that can be downloaded for free and has a few recorded spots that are specific to spit tobacco.
Cowboy Ted has been a college instructor in Utah, California and Missouri. The longtime educator holds a Master of Education degree in Health. Physical Education & Recreation. Cowboy Ted serves on the National Local Board of Health’s Chronic Disease & Tobacco Prevention Advisory Committee and was a spokesperson for Buck Tobacco. He also served two terms on the Board of Directors for the Southwest Utah Public Health Department.
